Helmer John Woo’s “Red Cliff 2” actioner, which opened in China on Wednesday, has rushed past the 100 million yuan ($14.6 million) threshold in its five-day weekend. It was “like printing money,” Weng Li, spokesman for producer-distrib China Film Group, wrote of the pic on its website. The first installment of the $80 million two-part series, Asia’s biggest-budget project, bowed in Asia in July and took in $46 million within a month. Together, the two pics come in at over five hours. A shorter version combining the pair is set for release in Europe next month and in the U.S. in March. |
